Great photo of Hank Greenberg. On this date, Hank went 1 for 3 with two walks, 1 RBI and 3 runs scored. The Tigers beat the Philadelphia Athletics 11-0 behind a 5 hit, complete game shutout by Tommy Bridges.

Spring training parks allow you to be extremely close to the action. I took this shot of Cabrera yesterday at Joker Marchant Stadium, home for the Tigers spring training. Check out his new orange and black first baseman's glove. The Tigers beat the Astros 5-1. Cabrera went 1-2 with a run scored.
WOW! This PSA 10 Alan Trammell / Paul Molitor rookie card sold on ebay this week for $8,100.00! This card is known for having print marks that look like black and red smudges; making PSA 10 grades extremely difficult. In fact, there are only 13 graded 10's, compared to over 300 graded 9's. Prices for a PSA 10 have been jumping; in 2009 a PSA 10 Tram sold for "only" $2250. This is the only basic Tram card that I don't have in a PSA 10. It looks like I'm going to have to just learn to love my PSA 9... I've been collecting tickets and stubs from the Tigers 1984 season. My set is over 75% complete. Finding away game stubs, especially from the west coast, are the biggest challenge. This game from Boston on August 8 1984, was not one of the Tigers best. Dennis "Oil Can" Boyd pitched a complete game shutout against the Tigers, giving up seven hits. Starting pitcher for the Tigers, Glenn Abbott, was shelled, giving up 5 runs in only 2/3 of an inning. He didn't make it out of the 1st inning. Please let me know if you have any 1984 Tigers ticket stubs for sale or trade! Caption: Dated 7/81975: "About three weeks ago a (tomato) plant mysteriously stuck its head up through the gray gravel warning track in front of the fence in straightaway centerfield. Tigers' centerfielder Ron LeFlore make sure the eight inch tall plant continues to grow as he uses a watering can to feed the plant." This was a great photo and an "on card" autograph that I just recently picked up. When Tettleton played for the Tigers, it seemed like he was always hitting the winning homerun in the bottom of the 9th. Back in the early 90's the Tigers strategy was to overpower everyone - great hitting but very little pitching. |
